Mantis Operator Interface Validates Outbound Freight
The Mantis Operator Interface has been successfully installed in a new application in the logistics and distribution market. The Mantis answers the question “Is this carton being loaded onto the correct outbound trailer?”
Paired with an overhead omnidirectional bar code scanner, the Mantis is checking that freight is conveyed into the correct outbound trailer. Custom go no-go criteria is applied to bar code data collected on conveyors feeding freight into LTL and third party trucks. For example, the Mantis Operator checks that all freight conveyed into a trailer of Carrier A has a 1Z……….. label on it. If a 1Z is not found, or the wrong carrier’s label is read, alarms will result. Carrier specific bar code based criteria is used by The Mantis Operator Interface to determine if the freight is being conveyed and loaded into the correct trailer.
The main menu on the Mantis Operator Interface allows an operator to select the carrier assigned to the lane. Passwords are used to restrict who can make a change to the carrier assigned to the lane.
In the event of a carton with the wrong carrier’s bar code, a visual alarm (red beacon) is lit and the conveyor belt is stopped. The display on the Mantis indicates the type of error (no-read or wrong carrier). The selector switch on the Mantis Operator Interface is used to reset the alarm and restart the conveyor.
The Mantis Operator Interface, introduced in 2002, is installed in many diverse applications in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and material handling industries. With dozens of units installed, the Mantis Operator Interface is a field tested and proven method for 100% unattended verification of the readability and correctness of machine readable symbols such as bar codes.
